This School is a language centre, dedicated solely to teaching languages. It is part of a network of language schools distributed throughout Andalusia (Southern Spain).

The bigger schools (e.g. Málaga) offer courses in over 10 different languages. At Granada, we offer 5 languages: Arabic, English, French, German and Spanish as a foreign language.

If you want further information on Language schools, have a look at http://eeooii.org.

There are 3 levels (to be implemented in 2007/08: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced) each divided into 2 different courses. The first two-course level leads to the Basic Certificate; the second level leads to the Intermediate Certificate and the third level leads to the Advanced Certificate, which, outside of the university education system, is the most prestigious language qualification awarded in Spain.

We also offer special courses for primary and secondary teachers involved in bilingual schools projects and distance learning courses.

The certificates awarded by the Official Language Schools are officially recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education. They enable Primary School teachers, who already hold a university degree, to teach the target language in the first cycle of Secondary Education. Without these certificates, they are only able to teach at Primary Level.

These certificates also satisfy entry requirements for officially recognised exams, exchange and training programmes. Although they do not guarantee a job straight away, holders of these certificates make extremely competitive applicants for jobs in public and private companies. Our students are a mixture of adults and teenagers; the minimum age to register is 14 and, in theory, there is no upper age limit. As this is not compulsory education and we have a large number of adult students, motivation tends to be higher than in High Schools. We also don’t have to face any serious disciplinary problems or disruptive behaviour among our younger students.

In 2008/2009 we'll be sharing the building with a high school where we'll be able to offer a multimedia room, language lab and library, classrooms equipped with cassettes players, classroom library and there will also be three fully equipped classrooms with hi-fi systems and Video/DVD and other facilities such as OHP, video projector; we also offer a Language Resource Centre with a serviceable collection of materials which enable us to maintain high standards of teaching and access to the internet from Administration, Management, the Staff Room and all classrooms. We also offer an extensive range of extra-curricular activities throughout the year.

If you are interested in improving your Spanish, March is the time for signing up.
